EAV: Entity-Attribute-Value Model

The EAV model is how Google structures its understanding of any topic. Master it and you'll know exactly what information every page must contain to satisfy Google's completeness check.

What you'll learn

  • Understand the three components of EAV: Entity, Attribute, Value
  • Learn how Google uses EAV to evaluate content completeness
  • Know how to decompose any topic into EAV triplets
  • Understand passage-level EAV evaluation by LLMs and AI Overviews
  • Build complete EAV triplet maps for commercial and informational pages

What EAV Means in Practice

The Entity-Attribute-Value (EAV) model breaks down any piece of information into three components. This is not an SEO framework invented by practitioners — it mirrors how Google's Knowledge Graph and LLM-based systems internally structure their understanding of the world.

  • Entity — the subject being described (e.g., "Interactive Brokers")
  • Attribute — a property or characteristic of that entity (e.g., "regulatory status")
  • Value — the specific, quantified answer for that attribute (e.g., "regulated by FCA, SEC, FINRA")

Every sentence in a high-quality SEO page should resolve to at least one EAV triplet. When a page is evaluated by Google or an LLM, the system checks: which entities are present, which of their expected attributes are addressed, and whether specific values are provided for those attributes.

⚠ Vague content fails EAV validation

Bad: "This casino has a great welcome bonus with lots of coins."
Good: "Playtana awards 125,000 GC + 1.00 SC upon registration, with email verification required."
The second version provides Entity (Playtana), Attribute (welcome bonus), Value (125,000 GC + 1.00 SC + email verification). The first provides none of these clearly.

Passage-Level EAV: How LLMs Evaluate Your Content

AI systems — Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity — do not rank or cite entire articles. They extract individual passages. Each passage is evaluated independently for its ability to answer a sub-intent without requiring surrounding context.

A passage that passes LLM evaluation must be self-sufficient:

  • Entity named explicitly (not "it", "this", "they")
  • Values specified (not "more", "better", "improved")
  • Context included (not "as mentioned above")
  • Complete thought (no dependency on adjacent sentences)

Test every paragraph by reading it in isolation: does it fully answer a specific question? If not, it will be skipped by AI extraction systems regardless of how good the surrounding content is.

Building an EAV Triplet Map

Before writing or auditing any page, build an EAV map: a table of all entities that should appear on the page, with their expected attributes and ideal values.

EAV Triplet Map: CFD Broker Page Entity Attribute Value Interactive Brokers Regulation FCA, SEC, FINRA, ASIC Interactive Brokers Min. deposit $0 (no minimum) CFD trading Max leverage (EU) 1:30 (ESMA regulation) CFD trading Instruments available 8,000+ CFDs across 10 classes FCA Role UK financial regulator Each row = one EAV triplet; the page must cover all expected attributes with specific values

Intent Type Determines EAV Format

Different query intents require different EAV presentation formats. AI systems select content that directly matches the intent pattern:

Intent TypeQuery PatternBest EAV Format
Transactional"best [product]", "top [service]"Ranked list with specific values per entity
Informational"what is [concept]"Definition + mechanism with EAV triplets
Comparative"[A] vs [B]"Side-by-side attribute comparison table
Tactical"how to [achieve outcome]"Numbered steps with entity + action pairs
Trust/Safety"is [X] legit"Credibility signals with verifiable values

Superlative Claims Require Supporting EAV Values

When content makes comparative claims ("best," "highest," "fastest"), AI systems require those claims to be immediately supported by a specific EAV value. Unsupported superlatives reduce content authority.

Weak: "This platform offers the best bonuses on the market."
Strong: "Funzcity's $2.99 starter package delivers a 1,400% bonus — the highest percentage bonus identified across 47 tested platforms."

The template: [Entity] represents the [superlative claim] with [supporting metric].

Key Takeaways

  • Every quality sentence resolves to an EAV triplet: Entity, Attribute, specific Value — not a vague description
  • AI systems evaluate content at passage level — each paragraph must be self-sufficient without requiring surrounding context
  • Build an EAV map before writing any page to ensure all expected attributes are covered
  • Different query intents require different EAV presentation formats — match the format to the intent
  • Superlative claims must be immediately followed by the specific EAV value that supports them
